The overall objectives of this Project between the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) and Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) are to build the capacity of DHM to better meet the growing demands to produce hydrometeorological observations and services to support the development of the community and different socio-economic sectors, build the capacity to participate in regional hydrometeorological cooperation and projects and development of early warning system for natural hazards, especially floods. This Project also builds capacity to produce better and more local information for Nepalese government, industry and organizations about impacts of climate change.

The Project is in line with the overall development plan of DHM, the support requested by DHM from WMO, and potential participation of DHM in regional hydrometeorological initiatives and activities related to climate change issues.
