Enhancing Capacities for Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Management for Sustainable Livelihoods in the Agriculture Sector

This UNDP-FAO joint programme is an extension of a FAO-TCP project to two districts (Banke and Surket) focusing on district and community level activities and establishing close linkages to national level capacity building and policy support. The project aims to assist the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives (MoAC) in testing and operationalising the process of shifting from a reactive emergency response focused intervention approach towards a pro-active natural hazard risk prevention/preparedness oriented approach in the agricultural sector. It will also demonstrate viable climate change adaptation practices in two selected pilot districts to address the impacts of climate variability and climate change and to increase awareness and resilience needed by the communities to address the future risks. The project employs a Training of Trainers (ToT) approach and aims to contribute to the development of sustainable capacity enhancement at district and local levels.
