NGO Group on Climate Change (NGOCC)

NGO group on climate change is a loose network of nongovernmental organizations (NGO) of Nepal that aims at strengthening the civil society movement in Nepal through building strong network and alliance of NGOs and engaging them in climate change research and development work. The members of these groups are civil society organizations of Nepal. INGOs, donors & government organizations are the advisers of this network. The network has become a best learning and information sharing platform on climate change among the grass root NGOs in Nepal. By September 2010, more than 100 NGOs from all development regions of Nepal are affiliated to this network through 3 regional secretariats (NCDC in eastern, DWO in mid western and YAC Nepal in far western development regions) and one central core group. Overall secretariat role has been played by Local Initiatives for Biodiversity, Research and Development (LI-BIRD) in collaboration with the network members. In order to strengthen the flow of information to the wider public and easy access to the climate change information, the network has established six climate change information and resource centers lead by ECCA in Kathmandu, RIMS Nepal in Dhading, NCDC in Ilam, LI-BIRD in Kaski, DWO Banke in Banke, and Farwestern Region NGO federation in Kailali. The network’s one of the important priorities is to facilitate implementation of climate change responses of the government on the ground and formulation of national programmes and policies at the center by providing the community climate change responses and needs to the national policy makers and planners. Interested NGOs can send email that should explicitly describe their intent to become the member of the NGO network to the following email address: ngogroups@googlegroups.com or info@libird.org or kthapa@libird.org
